So the Angry Rest

from Masterpiece by Paper Gods

/

about

why the buried won't stay so for long

lyrics

one night they put
a magic hole
into the door
that was to lead
under the crooked
shadow wall
within they crept
collecting seeds
and stripped of ore
the dingy shade
they made to look
a worser man
whose tired face
been dead awhile
complained no less
from underground
his pitted soul
did carry on
as the magpie does
“but where were you?
and can’t you tell
I’m buried alive
halfway to hell
but you come and sit
on a little bench
just out of reach.
my twisting arms
would love to hold
your tender skin
and clutch your back
as we descend
my soul inside
screaming up
as we go down
to our angry grave...”
for that they put
a hole deep enough
to bend the minds
of souls they keep
beneath the sod
so the angry rest
and stay asleep.
